Quick Getaways From Hercules

Quick Getaways From Hercules

If you're loving life in the luxury apartments in Hercules, you might well be tempted to never leave this idyllic California setting. Situated on the San Pablo Bay, about 10 miles north of Berkeley, the stunning views and laid-back nature of this serene community are more than enough for many to call it paradise. Every so often, though, the urge to get out of town and go on a quick trip takes hold, and thankfully, there are plenty of places well within striking distance that will satisfy your thirst for adventure. Let's look at a few of the amazing getaways that await.

Adventures From Around The Bay

Around the Bay Area, there are plenty of fantastic adventures to be had. Whether your idea of fun is a jaunt out on the water, a delve into mother nature, or an excursion to a thrilling amusement park, there's likely something nearby that will suit your personal tastes.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

About 12 miles north of Hercules in Vallejo, you'll find the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The 135 acre theme park is open year round and contains eight main roller coasters along with three separate water rides. While big name, DC Comics branded coasters like "Superman" and "The Joker" might be the most notable rides in the park, this location also has its share of smaller "thrill rides" and family attractions that might appeal to the roller coaster averse.

The well-known SkyScreamer is one such offering, carrying riders high into the air and swirling them in a wide arc at high speeds. Discovery Kingdom is also home to an abundance of "kiddie rides" and animal attractions. Displays include the Shark Experience, Walrus Experience, Alligator Isle, The Tiger Island, and many others. Whether you're heading out solo, on a date, or with the entire family in tow, this Six Flags is well-accommodating to your aims of a fun, one-day getaway.

Chardonnay Golf Club

Further north, nearing the Napa County Airport, is the Chardonnay Golf Club. This pride of the Napa Valley is unique in its setting, and they don't hesitate to let prospective players know that they do things a bit differently than other courses you may have been to in the past:

"Unlike virtually all courses today, Chardonnay’s golfers are not asked to play amidst any private residences. Our 18-holes of semi-private championship golf offer a variety of challenges for players of all skill levels."

On top of that, though, the club is famed for their high class food and beverages, along with the leisurely atmosphere of the overall setting (something that's reflected in the average time it takes to play 18-holes here).

Sure, you'll need a membership to avail yourself of everything that the Chardonnay has to offer, but they spell out their tier structures very well and make it easy to sign up. Once you're set, you're only a short drive away from few rounds and a respite from your normal day-to-day.

The Meritage Resort & Spa

Dreaming of a personal day where you can ease your troubles away with a deluxe spa treatment? The Meritage Resort & Spa should fit the bill, and it's located only twenty-five miles from Hercules. This resort location has it all. Luxury rooms, fabulous dining, and, of course, a wealth of relaxing spa treatments.

From deep tissue massages to various enhancements and full body therapies, you'll find something here to help you melt away stress and tension before returning home feeling like a completely rejuvenated individual.

In addition to the top-tier resort treatment, you might also try out one of the many nearby activities on offer as well, like a bike tour, hot-air balloon, or a quick excursion to one of the local wineries. Speaking of which...

Scribe Winery

The areas north of Hercules, Napa and Sonoma in particular, are dense with various wineries. Just one of the many locations is the Scribe Winery, located on Denmark Street in Sonoma, this beautiful spot offers exactly what you'd expect from a high quality winery experience. Great wine and excellent food pairings go hand-in-hand, enhanced by the decidedly vintage atmosphere and shabby-chic interior decorations.

Just remember, this place, like most all wineries in the area, is a popular hotspot and can get crowded at a moment's notice. To make the most of your day trip here, be sure to secure yourself a membership and make some reservations well in advance.

Boating In Sausalito

A bit south and across the water in Sausalito is a perfect spot to start a day of boating. It's only a 30 mile drive from Hercules, and once you're there you'll have your pick of establishments to rent a boat from or charter a tour. There's SF Bay Adventures, Sausalito Yacht Club, and Bay Breeze Charters, just to name a few.

You may decide to grab a small boat and head out on your own from the beautiful Sausalito Marina. Alternatively, you might instead decide to go all out embark on one of the many adventures up for offer from the various boat rental spots throughout the town. A whale watching tour, perhaps? Or maybe tour of the sights around the bay? Whatever you're ideal day on the water looks like, you'll be able to bring it to fruition here.
