Holiday Tree Lighting In Hercules
The name Hercules inspires strength, and it’s what you’ll find in this sunny California town. Amazing views of The Bay, a powerful community, and even strong offerings that seep over to the apartments in Berkeley nearby. Another thing that’s worthy of the name here is the Holiday Tree Lighting, an event that turns what could just be a simple “one-and-done” happening into a three weekend extravaganza with plenty of follow up that makes the Christmas season here one with inimitable cheer. Just what will the Holiday Tree Lighting bring residents this year? That’s what we’ll be exploring today, looking into the three big dates to keep on the calendar and what will be going down.
It Starts With The Tree, But That’s Not All...
The tree lighting itself takes place at the Hercules Community Center on December 3rd:
“Come join us for a magical evening! Santa will arrive at 5:15 p.m. to light the tree. There will be performers, arts and crafts, food and much more.”
In typical Hercules fashion, this will be more than just a chance to commune and have fun with fellow residents. This is a time for the town to come together and help those less fortunate as well. The City Of Hercules Parks & Recreation is accepting donations of canned food, used clothing (coats, specifically), and unwrapped toys. These will then be distributed to those in need, providing a warmer, less hungry, and cheerful holiday to members of the community who might not have the means to make it happen on their own.
Efforts like these aren’t mere theater, either. Through sustained giving and the work of local residents and volunteers, the number of people living homeless in the Contra Costa County area has dropped considerably:
“There was a 7-percent drop this year in people experiencing homelessness in Contra Costa County when an annual survey was conducted in January, according to a report released this week by Contra Costa Health Services' Division of Health, Housing and Homeless Services, or H3.”
Charitable acts like those going on at the Holiday Tree Lighting aid in the effort, and help those in dire conditions have hope for improving their situations. Be sure to get out there and show the love, then prepare yourself for the next item up on Hercules’ holiday blitz.
On December 9th, also at the Community Center, it will be time for Breakfast With Santa at 8:30AM sharp:
“Bring your family down to meet Santa, have breakfast, and participate in all of the holiday festivities! Activities will include arts and crafts, face painting, and much more.”
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and $7 for seniors. Infants can get in for a mere $1 ticket. It’ll be a time to delight in holiday breakfast favorites along with the big guy himself. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, and more will be on the menu, and you won’t want to miss an awesome meal like this.
The fun doesn’t cease there, though, because the following weekend, on December 16th, the TYC Winter Wonderland Workshop is kicking off:
“Bring your family down to the Hercules Teen Center to participate in all of the festive activities. Activities will include arts and crafts, making your own holiday treat, face painting, music and much more.”
Again, tickets are inexpensive, at $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. This will be a kid-friendly spectacular that perfectly sums up the feeling of the holidays for the residents of Hercules.
There’s More Than The Community Center Events
Those community center events are just a sampling of the fun to be had in and around Hercules. Jet on over to Berkeley, for instance, and you can find fine events like the Holiday French Market. Taking place on December 1st, this event will feature an array of French food, wine, and music, along with a holiday craft table specifically for kids. Representing this fine slice of European culture will be:
Les Délices d'Anne
European Books & Media
Carole Neilson Ceramics
Les Petits Carreaux
Crafts with Agnès
Les Délices d'Anne will be of particular note to foodies, as the French caterer is known far and wide-from serving delicacies directly from the creative mind of a true chef. From the cook’s mouth herself:
“Preparing good food for my family and friends, hosting parties at home has always been obvious, my excitement coming with tasty menus! Very curious, I love discovering every day mouth-watering new recipes.”
If you want to hit the Bay and get your holiday party groove on directly afterwards, you can head to OCSC Sailing on Spinnaker Way for the Annual Holiday party on December 2nd. This even will provide a chance to “sing your favorite holiday songs and enjoy beer, wine, egg nog, and all sorts of treats,” while also supporting charity:
“This year we’re supporting the Berkeley Fire Department Food and Toy Drive. If you can, please bring a non-perishable food item (e.g. pasta, canned meals, soup, beans, peanut butter, tuna) or a new, unwrapped toy.”
Uttering the words “pop-up” or “craft” is enough to get some people’s radar activated. Use them both for the same event and you’ll grab their attention in short order, which is likely what Bliss Fitness & Health was planning with their “Holiday Bliss Pop-Up Craft Fair.” If you don’t mind a short drive to Oakland, you’ll be able to peruse the many items brought by vendors from around the area:
“Gift giving is an art form. Finding a gift that will bring delight takes creativity and heart. You will find treasures that are unique and thoughtful among our curated local vendors. Come shop among friends in our beautiful historic building on Broadway, in the Piedmont/Temescal area.”
In a similar vein, the Holiday Pop-Up Shop at the Design Studio on Utah Street in San Francisco is another great opportunity to see and purchase work from dedicated craftsmen. Head on out December 6th, and be sure to participate in the Gingerbread Decorating Contest they’ll have going on as well.
