Is Downtown Benicia Considered a California Main Street?
Believe it or not, it’s definitely true. Benicia is considered one of the 40 cities that were recently selected to participate in the program known as California Main Street. This program is considered a neighborhood alliance of sorts that originally came into being in 1986.
This program started as a way to become part of a national movement. This movement was designed to help Americans improve the quality of their lives throughout neighborhoods, cities, and towns all across the state.
When you become a member of the California Main Street Alliance, you get to experience all of the benefits of becoming part of this organization. Just a few of the members only benefits include reduced fees for training and conferences, technical assistance in a one-on-one intimate situation, website links and membership listings, the quarterly newsletter, and much more.
So, as an individual you have an opportunity to join the California Main Street Alliance just like Benicia did. But that’s not the only benefit of moving into this historic community. It also has a gorgeous waterfront, beautiful antique stores, a plethora of specialty shops, some of the finest restaurants that money can buy, and the marina is definitely thriving as well.

Historic Downtown Benicia
This may or may not be common knowledge at this point, but Downtown Benicia is actually the home of more than 30 historical points of interest in this particular region of California. There are a number of different landmarks and more. In fact, the restored State Capitol is here, and it’s been here since 1853, when this area was considered the capital of California.
The historic downtown area is also made up of antique stores, restaurants serving delicious food, and specialty shops with very unique items. This historically preserved location is just one of the many reasons why so many people like moving to this area.
Plus, the Victorian inspired homes are certainly another reason why so many people gravitate toward the area. It has old town charm complemented by many modern commercial developments. Upcoming Benicia Events
As mentioned in the beginning of this article, there are many upcoming featured events taking place in Benicia in the near future. We want you to learn all about these exciting experiences, so we’re going to fill you in on some more of the important details.
As an example, on May 17, 2018, the Benicia Certified Farmers Market is opening its figurative doors to the community. Stop by any time between 4 PM to 8 PM, and you can get your hands on some amazing gourmet food, organic fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, your favorite arts and crafts pieces, face painting, delicious hot food, live music and entertainment, and so much more.
You can find the market on First Street located between B & D streets. This is a recurring event that begins on the 17th that lasts all summer long on Thursdays, so remember to stop by often to participate in the festivities and join in on the fun.
Next, the annual Ghost Walk begins on April 6, 2018, and it’s held on the first and third Friday of the month at 8 PM until October. So, if you ever wanted to learn more about the paranormal history of Downtown Benicia, then you’re in for an amazing treat because this tour is fun, interactive, and a paranormal expert is going to lead the way.
If you’re interested in the tour, do not hesitate to sign up because space is limited. If less than six people make reservations for the event, it will be canceled, so remember to tell your friends and family about this exciting experience and tell them to bring as many people as they can accommodate to make sure the tour takes place.
Early next year, you can also participate in Downtown Benicia Restaurant Week. It begins on Saturday, January 20 and ends on Saturday, January 27. With a dining passport, you can get a 15% to 20% discount at some of the top eateries in the area.
