Useful tips for moving to the Upper East Side Manhattan

New York City is one of the fastest paced, busiest cities in the world. Whether you're coming from out of state, or simply moving two miles over to the Upper East Side Apartments, it's going to take some precision planning to ensure your move is as stress free as possible. While you will most certainly be able to afford some help in this endeavor, consider these tips when planning your move.

Choosing a Mover

When it comes to choosing your movers, you obviously need someone with experience. Not just any experience, though, you need someone who knows how to navigate the bustling city streets of New York. They need to be able to adhere to a strict schedule for both the time frame in which you've hired them and the allotted time you've acquired for parking outside of your new residence. Both of those might sound easy, but if you live in the big apple you know just how complicated a scenario that can become. You will also need to hire, at the very minimum, two movers from the company. Why? One is going to stay in the truck to make sure any potential parking tickets and towing are avoided. That works in your favor, because most companies are allowed to seek compensation from you if either happens. Typically, a companies website will let you know how much experience they have in the city. If it does not, then it never hurts to call and found out how many successful moves they've done.

Save the Date

This is going to take some expert coordination, but try your best to pick a day when the least amount of people will be moving into the building along with you. You'll have to reserve the elevator for a select amount of time, and many find that time slots run into one another. Picking a day when others are already settled, or before they've even gotten started, allows you to pick a larger slot of time. The same goes for parking. Timing things right allows for a much smoother move on your end, and the mover's.

For those moving from another part of the city into one of the other apartments for rent in Manhattan, plan for both the move in and the move out. The same problems above can apply to each part of the process.

Packing Up

This one is pretty self explanatory. However, it's worth mentioning for those coming from out of state. While it's understood that New York is one of the busiest cities in the world, many underestimate just how hectic it can really be. Having your belongings packed and ready to go when the movers arrive will help keep the process smooth, but make sure they are packed with care. The moving truck is going to face the constant stop and start traffic of the city streets, so be sure to have your items wrapped up tight and tape those boxes closed. Having lived in the suburbs of Pennsylvania, it was easy to get away with simply folding the box tabs closed and sending them on their journey. That's a highly regrettable decision when moving in the city.

A note about delicate and sentimental items

We all have some items that are extremely fragile, or that simply mean so much to us that they cannot be replaced. It's always a good idea to take these to your new apartment the day beforehand. Sure, insurance is there to back you up should something happen, but even the best coverage can't replace a family photo album or a family heirloom. It's better to be safe than sorry, and this gives you a chance to really think about where everything will go the next day.

What About the Weather?

While we can't predict the weather, we can always plan around it as best we can. When it comes to New York, the winters here can be rough. Avoid those snowy months at all costs, and plan for a spring, summer, or fall move. There's nothing worse that dealing with the craziness of the streets while sloshing through snow and ice. Just avoid that headache altogether. Check the local forecast for a sunny day with clear skies, and you'll be just fine.

Finding the Right Place

Everyone has different tastes, and different budgets. However, this is New York. If you're looking for luxury then you can find it in the Upper East Side apartments. To further define luxury, think barnwood style flooring, spacious closets with custom shelving, private terraces, satin nickel door handles, and modern style. We're talking kitchens with beautiful iced white quartz countertops, glass tile backsplash, under cabinet lighting, Moen fixtures and Bosch appliances, and Fisher Paykel gas ranges. Luxury is also a contemporary vanity and ceasarstone countertops in the bathroom.

Those are just the features of a luxury apartment, but no home is complete without a slew of amenities for you to take advantage of. 24/7 Concierge services in the lobby, a state of the art gym, roof deck, landscaped patio, and acceptance of your furry friends are all a must. In Manhattan, living the life of luxe includes on site parking as well, a commodity that many cannot afford in a city where space is at such a premium. All of these qualities that create a true luxury living space can be found on the Upper East Side, making your home in New York one of the best in the city.

When planning your move into one of the best areas in Manhattan, keep these useful tips in mind. They'll ensure that the process goes over smoothly, and save you the stress and hassle that all too many experience. Be sure to look into full service movers, as well, that can handle even more of the process for you. When it's all said and done, you'll be living in one of the greatest apartments New York has to offer, and you'll have done so with ease.
